Letting and Leasing Property in Zimbabwe...

It is an unfortunate fact that landlords in Zimbabwe believe they have absolute power over their tenants. They resort to threats, attaching property, eviction, dumping personal possessions in the street, and raising rents and deposits at a moments notice. This illegal mindset is not one that will go away until tenants start standing up for their rights. Tenants must also be aware that paying rent does not permit them to ill-treat what is in reality someones possession. Property damage and neglect can be an actionable criminal offence. The landlord is also protected through various means. We can advise those who rent their property what they might come up against, and the extent of their authority. It is best to let the law work for you rather than to exercise misguided action yourself. If you are a landlord, you would really want to make sure you have the reputation of being right, fair and reasonable - otherwise you just might find it impossible to rent out even a cardboard box!
